Accounting, Associate Director

THE COMPANY

89bio is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative therapies for the treatment of liver and cardio-metabolic diseases. The company's lead product candidate, pegozafermin (BIO89-100), is a specifically engineered glycoPEGylated analog of FGF21. Pegozafermin is being developed for the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and severe hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG).

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Director Global Finance, the Associate Director Accounting is responsible for the  company's accounting operations. The position is responsible for the Management of all aspects of the accounting department, including timely month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, managing accounts payable, supervising payroll operations, franchise tax reporting and filing.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Senior Director in Managing periodic financial closing, and hands-on management and driving process improvement in the accounting operations function.
  • Develops, modifies and executes company's accounting and finance policies that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide effect.
  • Work closely with the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis with annual budgeting process with all department leaders with the objective of meeting corporate targets and deadlines.
  • Interacts regularly with lower and/or senior management on accounting matters concerning several functional areas, and departments.
  • Ensure accounts are reconciled in accordance with GAAP, internal policies and procedures, and ensure internal controls are followed and enforced.
  • Manage all aspects of the quarterly reviews and annual audit and ensure compliance with all local reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Prepare accounting memos as required related to accounting matters and topics that require documentation (R&D accrualscollaborations, out licenses, M&A etc).
  • Leverage technology to streamline and improve the month-end close process; drive internal process improvements and continually identify opportunities for automation.
  • Implement controls over financial reporting, ensure strong internal control policies and procedures, and identify areas where improvements can be madeKey role in the maintaining and executing the Company's SOX program.
  • Interface consistently and proactively with the business to ensure open communication and process efficiency.
  • Assist with ad hoc tasks as assigned and perform other duties as directed. 

THE QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.A. in Accounting, Finance or related field, M.A is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in life science's finance discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 years of leadership experience.
  • Ability to lead and influence others.
  • Ability to work on issues where analysis of financial situations or data requires conceptual thinking and an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills/ highly collaborative, and ability to cultivate strong internal/external network of relationships.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving & interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with working in high growth, collaborative organizations.
  • Team oriented, highly motivated, execution focused with strong work ethic, ability to thrive in a high growth, entrepreneurial environment.

SALARY & LEVEL

89bio considers a range of factors when determining the salary and level. These considerations mean actual salary and level may vary. The salary range for this position is $190,000 - $210,000 and will be commensurate with experience.
